Skopje Reactivates Bus Transport Project in New Urban Development Phase

The Municipality of Skopje is entering a new phase of urban development with the reactivation of the Bus Transport Project (BTR), Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski announced at a recent press conference. The project, which had been paused for twelve months, is now being revived with support from the government and international partners. “We will cancel the entire process and prepare for the start of the transitional phase,” Gjorgjievski said.

“This project will have a significant impact on mobility within Skopje.”

The BTR system is part of a comprehensive strategy for urban mobility being developed by the mayor and the city administration. This strategy includes plans for the development of bicycle infrastructure, the expansion of pedestrian zones, and the implementation of alternative transportation modes across the city over the coming years. Gjorgjievski emphasized that this initiative represents one of the largest investments in this area.

The reactivation marks a key step in the city’s broader efforts to modernize its transportation network and improve accessibility for residents. The project is expected to contribute substantially to Skopje’s ongoing urban development.
