The contract for the grant for the construction of the A1 motorway from Skopje to Blace was signed

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Macedonian Development Agency (MDA) have formally entered into a contract for the construction of the A1 motorway connecting Skopje to Blagoevgrad. The agreement, which was officially signed by the directors of both institutions, Kostë Trajanovski and Fatih Turkmenoglu, outlines the funding structure for the major infrastructure project. Financially, the project is supported by a substantial grant amounting to 30.8 million euros, sourced from the European Union’s Western Balkans Investment Framework.

Complementing this funding is a loan facility totaling 167.6 million euros. According to Kostë Trajanovski, Director of the MDA, the scope of the A1 motorway construction covers a segment measuring 10.5 kilometers, extending from the existing Skopje-Stankovo toll road to the border with Kosovo. While the total project debt stands at 167.6 million euros, the construction initiative represents a significant boost to regional connectivity.

The signing of this contract formalizes the commitment to develop this vital transport corridor, thereby facilitating trade and movement between key Macedonian regions and international borders. The agreement solidifies the financial and institutional framework necessary to advance the motorway’s development.
