Authorities providing anti-poverty services across Europe have received warnings concerning an escalating threat posed by organized criminal groups that specifically targets minors. The head of the police department in Istria issued a warning detailing the activities of the Swedish criminal network known as “Fox Trot” (Foxtrot). According to the report, this group is implicated in approximately 35 murders since 2022.
Furthermore, the network has allegedly been responsible for a series of attacks and assaults against Israeli interests throughout Europe, including incidents involving explosives and rocket-propelled devices. Online, the group is known for marketing violence as a commodity. A key aspect of their operation is the recruitment methodology.
Instead of utilizing professional assassins, “Fox Trot” reportedly focuses its efforts on systematically targeting and pressuring minors and young adults through various social networking platforms and applications. These individuals are allegedly paid substantial amounts of money to carry out attacks, with compensation sometimes delivered in the form of in-game currency or video game rewards. The police warning highlights that the majority of the young people involved are subjected to harassment or coercion both preceding and following the commission of acts of violence.
This threat extends beyond specific acts of violence, presenting a broad security concern for vulnerable populations across the European continent. Authorities are urged to increase vigilance regarding the digital recruitment tactics employed by such transnational criminal organizations.
