The Minister for Health, Sašo Klepovski, has reported an increase in the incidence of West Nile fever across the country. Previously recorded in the southern regions of Macedonia, the cases are now being reported in both the Skopje and Veles areas. According to Klepovski, epidemiological authorities have assessed the current preventative measures as appropriate.
As part of the ongoing response, regular inspections have been implemented in the affected regions. Specifically, in Drače, where five confirmed cases were identified, inspections were conducted at a distance of 200 meters from the residences of registered patients. Furthermore, samples were collected from the ground, a measure Klepovski stated was effective when combined with aerial inspections.
The Minister noted that control efforts are actively underway throughout Skopje and various other municipalities. He emphasized that the primary responsibility for maintaining control and implementing preventative measures rests with the local municipalities. Klepovski’s statements confirm that the health department is monitoring the spread of the disease closely.
