The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) has intensified its surveillance efforts regarding the presence of box jellyfish, also known as sea wasps, which pose significant dangers to human life. These jellyfish have been linked to fatal incidents, most recently involving a 13-year-old boy who died after being stung. According to Thai PBS World, the incident occurred while the boy was swimming at Ban Fa Thah beach, located near Si Chon in the Nakhon Si Thammarat area.
In response to the fatality, Suchart Chomklin, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, conveyed deep condolences to the deceased boy’s family and expressed concern for both local residents and tourists visiting the coastal regions. He subsequently directed the DMCR to accelerate necessary preventive measures to mitigate such tragedies. Pin Sak Suraswadee, the General Director of the DMCR, confirmed that regional officials have been instructed to conduct comprehensive patrols along the entire coastline.
The heightened vigilance aims to ensure public safety and minimize the risks associated with encounters with venomous marine life. The authorities are taking proactive steps to warn the public and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the near future.
