The SDSM issued a statement regarding the display, asserting that the use of the Macedonian flag in the production was inappropriate and diminished the nation’s standing. The party directed its criticism toward the current administration, attributing the perceived misuse of the national symbol to the leadership of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.
The opposition argued that the display suggested a decline in the status of the flag, particularly given the significance of the 35-year milestone celebrating the nation’s independence. In their statement, the SDSM characterized the incident as a deeply concerning display. In addition to criticizing the visual presentation of the flag, the SDSM formally addressed the government, demanding transparency regarding the event’s logistics.
The party requested that the government disclose the identities of the companies responsible for organizing the music-drama, as well as those contracted for the stage design and the overall visual identity of the commemorative program.
