Risteiski: Markets should not be gutted by unfounded producer prices

Deputy Minister for Economy and Labor, Marjan Risteiski, addressed concerns regarding price stability and market fairness during an event at the monetary presidency in Prilep on July 3, 2026. Speaking in the context of measures concerning self-employment, Risteiski issued directives regarding price management across various sectors. A central point of his address was the necessity for producers to refrain from unjustifiable price hikes over a specified period.

To ensure consumer protection, Risteiski announced that the market inspectorate will implement maximum supervision across all local markets. This increased oversight will encompass all participants—including distributors, additive suppliers, and producers—to rigorously examine profit margins. The goal of this intensive scrutiny, according to Risteiski, is to identify and mitigate any unjustified markups.

By pinpointing excessive margins, authorities aim to compel participants to reduce these levels, thereby stabilizing prices for the benefit of the citizenry. Risteiski clarified that the framework discussed was an agreement reached within the Prime Minister’s office, emphasizing that this understanding is not legally binding. Nevertheless, the commitment to stringent oversight of the markets remains a key focus.

The official statements underscore a governmental effort to regulate commercial practices and ensure that pricing structures in the markets remain reasonable and accessible to the public.
