REFORMS HAVE A BIG EFFECT: The Macedonian model for border crossing got a “green light” and from Tirana

One Stop Shop Border Crossing Nears Completion in Macedonian-Albanian Initiative

The One Stop Shop border crossing between Macedonia and Albania is entering its final stages of implementation, with both governments formally approving the system on June 16th. This initiative aims to streamline border procedures and significantly reduce congestion along the 8th Corridor. Previously, travelers faced lengthy delays due to separate Macedonian and Albanian border checks, often resulting in kilometer-long queues.

The new model will consolidate police and customs services from both countries into a unified operation. This coordinated approach is designed to minimize passenger, tourist, and transporter waiting times. Replacement Minister for Internal Affairs, Astrit Iseni, has concluded a series of final support sessions for local authorities in Struga, Pogradec, and Korçë, providing a working platform for the transition.

The project represents a key step in improving cross-border connectivity and efficiency. The Macedonian government’s commitment to this border infrastructure project reflects a broader effort to enhance trade and travel within the region. Officials anticipate the new system will create a more seamless experience for those utilizing the border crossing.
