Macedonia Announces New Aviation Routes Amid Global Crisis

In a move to bolster its tourism sector, the Republic of Macedonia will be opening five new flight routes over the next few weeks, according to a statement by Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski. The announcements were made on the “Rishtazi” news program. The initiative aims to mitigate the impact of the ongoing global aviation crisis.

Austrian airline ERLAIN will commence regular flights from Vienna to Ohrid, facilitating connections for summer travel. Polish airlines Visier will also begin operations, with routes established from Wroclaw and Krakow to Macedonia, anticipated to stimulate tourism from Poland. Furthermore, Macedonia will be providing aviation fuel to both the Skopje and Nis airports.

This support is intended to ensure continued operations and accessibility for travelers. Nikoloski highlighted that two existing summer destinations – Palermo, Sicily, and Alghero, Sardinia – will continue to operate beyond the traditional summer season, pending further assessment. The minister emphasized Macedonia’s commitment to supporting its aviation infrastructure and facilitating travel within the region.

This strategic move underscores the government’s focus on economic recovery and connectivity.
