DO NOT USE THE MIND IN THE APOCRYPHAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE SCHOOLS

Concerns Raised About Impact of Intelligent Chat Systems on Children’s Thinking

Academician Vladislav Lekterski, president of the Scientific Council for Methodology of Intelligent Systems and Cognitive Computing of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has expressed concerns regarding the widespread use of intelligent chat systems like ChatGPT among children. He warns of a potential decline in critical thinking skills. Lekterski highlighted the issue as increasingly apparent, particularly among students in primary and secondary education.

He noted a trend where children are relying on these systems to answer questions, potentially diminishing their own ability to engage in independent thought processes. “Such a danger really exists,” Lekterski stated to RIA Novosti. “I believe this will continue to be observed as children utilize these platforms within the educational system.” He emphasized the risk of students outsourcing their cognitive processes to artificial intelligence.

The academician’s comments come as concerns grow about the broader adoption of these systems. He underscored the importance of maintaining a balance between leveraging technological advancements and safeguarding the development of fundamental cognitive abilities in young learners. Further investigation into the long-term effects of this technology on children’s intellectual development is warranted.
