Significant Cocaine Haul Seized in Sydney, Worth Over $1 Billion
Sydney, Australia – Authorities have announced the largest cocaine seizure in Australian history, totaling nearly three tonnes and estimated to be worth approximately $1 billion Australian dollars. The operation culminated in the discovery of a substantial quantity of the illicit drug following a lead from a burnt-out truck near Mackay. Police subsequently discovered a significant quantity of cocaine hidden within three repurposed bus stop containers located in a fifth of a property in Sydney’s western suburbs.
The drug was concealed behind specially constructed barriers on the lower levels of the containers. The estimated street value of the seized cocaine is $816 million Australian dollars, equivalent to roughly 500 million euros. Following the discovery, two men, aged 21 and 25, were arrested in connection with the smuggling operation.
Authorities allege the individuals were attempting to flee the scene following the seizure. Both men face charges related to the illicit trafficking of cocaine and are expected to be sentenced to life imprisonment upon conviction. The investigation is ongoing.
