New Airline Routes Boost Connectivity and Economic Growth Around Ohrid

Ohrid, North Macedonia – The launch of new airline routes connecting Wroclaw to Ohrid and Katowice to Poland marks a significant development for the region, according to officials. Ohrid-Wroclaw, the new airline, initiated operations with a direct flight from Wroclaw to Ohrid, and a second route from Katowice to Poland will commence on Tuesday. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski highlighted the anticipated positive impact of these connections.

“These two new lines will mean more passengers, more tourists who will come to Macedonia, more people who will come to Macedonia to do business and more local economy development around Ohrid coast,” Nikoloski stated. Nikoloski emphasized the strong growth within North Macedonia’s domestic aviation sector. Domestic airports are currently experiencing the highest growth rate in the region, with a 31% increase in passenger numbers over the first five months of the year.

Industry projections anticipate this growth will surpass 3.5 million passengers annually. The increased connectivity is expected to stimulate tourism, attract business ventures, and foster economic development specifically around the Ohrid coast. Minister Nikoloski’s comments underscore the government’s commitment to expanding transportation infrastructure and supporting regional growth.
