Aleksandar Nikolovski, the newly appointed head of government and transport minister, has announced plans for a working visit to Gevgelija. The visit is intended to address the recently completed bridge connecting Ilinden and Drachevo. Officials indicated that this infrastructure improvement is expected to significantly enhance regional transport links and is tied to the development of Koridor 10, a 10-kilometer stretch that carries ecological considerations.
During discussions, Nikolovski addressed the historical record regarding cargo traffic, noting that it is a documented fact that wagons did not pass through the Skopje Voivodeship when the road was initially constructed 30 to 40 years ago. However, he stated that the political landscape has changed substantially since the fall of communism and the decline of the SDSM. Consequently, the current ruling party no longer views the Koridor as a priority.
Instead, the administration has committed to a comprehensive reconstruction effort. Nikolovski confirmed that the plan involves rebuilding the entire Koridor in collaboration with the JŽ railway authority. This reconstruction effort will also involve seeking external support and securing compensation for the necessary infrastructure upgrades.
The focus remains on developing a modern and functional transport corridor while incorporating sustainable elements into the new design.
