A convict who escaped from the “Idrizovo” prison was apprehended in Ohrid following an altercation with his injured girlfriend. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the incident occurred while the individual was on a leave of absence granted for the purpose of prison maintenance. According to the official documentation surrounding the case, the individual is slated to face a separate appeal hearing.
The Ministry stated that on August 5, 2026, at 15:50, police officers from the SRC (26) unit in Skopje took the individual into custody in Ohrid. It was noted that the convict had been on leave from the prison’s maintenance duties in Ohrid for a period of five years, during which time he was reportedly responsible for managing the prison’s funds. The confrontation took place when he encountered his girlfriend, who was reportedly injured, and subsequently attacked him physically.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that, based on the comprehensive documentation compiled for the case, a separate appeal will be formally lodged regarding the matter. The arrest in Ohrid marks the culmination of the events following his departure from the prison facility.
