Iran Confirms Executions Following Jafariya Community Case and Political Executions
The Supreme Court of Iran confirmed Monday the execution of two men, Mehrad Mohamadi-Nia and Ashkan Maleki, following their conviction in connection with an incident involving the Jafariya community in Ghisha, Tehran. The Supreme Court’s news agency, Mizan, reported the death sentences, which stemmed from charges including arson, theft, the use of armed forces without due process, highway obstruction, and acts against national security. Amid ongoing concerns regarding human rights within Iran, Amnesty International documented 39 political executions and amassed over 6,000 documents pertaining to the recent conflict.
These findings, however, remain without cited sources. Furthermore, Iranian authorities have been implicated in the attack on the Jafariya community during protests that concluded at the end of the year. Court mediators’ summaries indicate the individuals were convicted of these offenses.
The confirmations highlight a period of heightened judicial activity within the country.
