Hollywood celebrates 100 years since the birth of Marilyn Monroe

Event Planned to Honor Marilyn Monroe at Historic Kinski Theater

A tribute to Marilyn Monroe is planned at the Kinski Theater, a location significant in cinematic history and the setting for scenes in the 1953 film “The Greatest Story Ever Told,” which featured the likenesses of Jenean Russell and Monroe. The event, titled “Serenade,” will commemorate the actress and celebrate the theater’s place as a symbol of Hollywood’s golden age. Organizers intend to decorate the theater with one hundred roses and a cake, honoring Monroe’s legacy.

The Kinski Theater remains a popular destination for tourists interested in experiencing the era of classic Hollywood. Concurrent with this event, the Academy Museum has opened “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon,” an exhibition examining Monroe’s extensive film career and life. The exhibition reflects on Monroe’s rise to stardom in the 1950s and her untimely death in August 1962 at the age of 36, resulting from an overdose.

The event also acknowledges the actress’s origins, recognizing her birth in the town where the celebration is taking place. The exhibition serves as a remembrance of the actress and her impact on the world of monroe and film.
