Bojko Borisov Reaffirms Stance on Macedonian Blockades
Bojko Borisov, leader of GERB, has stated that the introduction of constitutional amendments regarding relations with North Macedonia represent only a symbolic gesture and that sanctions will remain in place until the full implementation of existing agreements. The Bulgarian Prime Minister’s comments, announced on Facebook by party officials, followed the appointment of new Euro-ambassadors. Borisov asserted that the inclusion of the Bulgarian representative within the constitution’s framework does not anticipate an end to the ongoing blockades initiated by Bulgaria against Macedonia.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to the “shameful protocols” – referring to key documents established in previous negotiations. The leader highlighted the 2017 Treaty of Good Neighborhood, signed with the support of GERB, as a foundational element of the current approach. Bojko Borisov reiterated his belief that Europe has demonstrated respect for these treaties.
He maintained that Bulgaria’s position will continue until the complete fulfillment of the outlined protocols. The statement underscores a continued disagreement between the two nations regarding the terms of the agreements and their implications.
