Avoid buying food in a bag that is too tight or inflated, warns ACHV

In Macedonia, the organic food sector is supported by approximately 400 operators. In light of potential spoilage risks, the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) has issued specific guidelines for consumers regarding the purchase and handling of perishable goods. Consumers are advised to exercise caution when buying food items with compromised packaging, such as those that are stained, inflated, or punctured.

Furthermore, the FVA cautions that highly perishable items, including meat, milk, and eggs, should not be left unattended in vehicles or other forms of transport for extended periods. Complementing these warnings, the Institute for Health (IH) has issued public health advisories concerning hygiene practices during periods of high heat. To mitigate risks, the general recommendation is for citizens to prioritize the consumption of products that are well-packaged, regularly sourced, and seasonal.

Consumers are encouraged to focus on “easy” and high-quality items. The advice also notes that food with a higher water content can aid in maintaining hydration during the summer months. Conversely, the guidelines suggest that consuming “difficult” or less stable types of food should be minimized.

Overall, the public is urged to avoid purchasing or consuming goods that do not meet established safety and packaging standards.
