Researcher Reflects on Academic Journey and International Recognition

Bilyana Vankovska shared recollections of her professional development on social media on June 19, 2026. The post detailed a significant period of academic pursuit, highlighting the extensive time invested in research and knowledge acquisition. Vankovska, who holds a doctorate, described the process of collecting data, noting that it required considerable time to develop expertise.

She specifically referenced a situation when she was engaged in data collection for a third project, a period during which her proficiency in the relevant language was limited. Vankovska explained that her understanding of the language developed primarily through elementary school studies and supplemental vocabulary acquisition. A key memory recounted was her participation in a world conference held in Seoul in 1996.

A colleague, originating from a Greek background, extended an invitation for her to serve as a panelist, despite a previously disqualified grant application for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds or conflict zones. Notably, the colleague also arranged for Vankovska to be the main speaker among approximately five hundred academics representing a global range of institutions.
