A significant fire broke out in the early morning near Kuvalas, situated in the Achaia region of Athens. Following the incident, authorities initiated an evacuation order for residents and individuals residing in the immediate vicinity of the blaze. A substantial number of firefighters are currently managing the situation.
These efforts include personnel from Romania and France, who are deployed in Greece under the European civil protection mechanisms. The Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has designated the area as having a high risk of fire outbreak. The blaze has primarily affected low vegetation.
A total of 197 firefighters have responded to the scene. The response included a team of 1,000 personnel and 42 vehicles. Specific international support teams were noted, including 23 firefighters and four vehicles from France, alongside 24 firefighters and five vehicles from Romania.
These international deployments are part of a broader program aimed at fire prevention in Greece.
