Professor Marko Tebromehlstrut of the University of Amsterdam suggests that a concept known as geo-fencing could effectively prevent vehicles from exceeding designated speed limits within urban environments. The mechanism operates by having the car utilize its GPS to determine its precise location and recognize predefined speed restrictions. Upon detecting an overspeed condition, the system can electronically intervene to limit acceleration to the permitted speed.
Furthermore, this restriction is dynamic; when the vehicle moves outside the designated restricted zone, the speed limitation is automatically lifted. While some manufacturers are exploring various applications, the integration of such features promises a significant enhancement in road safety. The potential for these advanced systems to manage speed proactively could fundamentally change how drivers interact with urban infrastructure, effectively helping to unlock a new standard of automated vehicle control.
