Protest March Planned in Skopje to Protest Environmental Permit Concerns
A protest march, organized by the Greek initiative “Stop for Us,” is scheduled to commence today at 6:00 pm in Skopje. The march will proceed from the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia and conclude in front of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning. The demonstration is being held in response to concerns regarding the recently issued environmental permit for the “TITAN USJE” company following infrastructure upgrades.
Organizers assert that the permit exhibits significant shortcomings and fails to meet current environmental standards. Specifically, the march aims to protest the limited scope of the permit, which currently lists border pollutants across only three categories – categories identical to those present in the previous permit and exceeding established European Union guidelines. The protest also addresses the European Union’s decision to grant the “TITAN USJE” company a new permit.
Participants intend to “stop” what they perceive as inadequate environmental protections. The event underscores ongoing scrutiny of the company’s operations and the implementation of updated environmental regulations. Organizers aim to raise awareness about the perceived deficiencies within the permit documentation and its implications for local environmental quality.
