Unusual Encounter at Croatian Camp Draws Tourist Attention

Dutch tourists staying at the “Mardonič” camp, situated on the border between Croatia and Slovenia, experienced a remarkable and unexpected event. During their visit, they observed a young bear swimming across the river Kupa, originating from the Croatian side. The sighting was described as a “stunning” moment captured by the visitors.

Camp staff have reported the presence of this bear for approximately two years. While regulations previously restricted the animal’s access to the camp due to “political considerations,” the bear’s attention was drawn by the scent of freshly prepared fish being prepared at the facility. During a brief and unplanned stay, the bear explored the camp grounds.

Witnesses noted the animal’s playful behavior, including running and frolicking near the river’s edge. The bear, appearing remarkably unafraid, was observed swimming directly across the Kupa from the Croatian side, creating a memorable encounter for the tourists. Authorities confirmed the bear’s continued presence in the area.
