Two people were killed when a jetliner crashed on the runway of the international airport of La Romana in the eastern Dominican Republic, according to the national civil aviation service. The pilot and copilot were killed in the crash, and there were no passengers on board, CNBCTV18 reported. The videos posted on social networks show a thick cloud of smoke as firefighters battle the fire.
The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation said the crew was in a state of emergency until the 16th hour, just south of La Romana. The jetliner crashed on the runway. Authorities confirmed that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the crash of the Gulfstream G200.
