Aliu Emphasizes Prevention as Key to Addressing Cocaine Addiction
Skopje – Minister of Health Azir Aliu issued a video message on June 12, 2026, addressing concerns surrounding cocaine addiction and supporting the proposed legislation regarding recreational gaming. The message, released at 13:53 pm, highlighted the critical role of prevention in safeguarding young people. Aliu stated that cocaine addiction is fundamentally a dependency and that proactive measures are the most effective approach to protecting vulnerable populations.
He emphasized that the issue transforms when cocaine evolves from a casual activity into a persistent habit and ultimately, an addiction. “When cocaine becomes a burden on families, contributing to stress and anxiety, and when it significantly impacts the lives of young people, it constitutes a serious problem,” Aliu explained. He underscored that the most effective therapy for addiction is, in fact, preventative action.
The Minister’s comments coincide with the ongoing debate surrounding the proposed reason-law for games and fun activities within the Macedonian Assembly, currently in its first reading. The focus remains on mitigating potential risks and promoting responsible engagement through preventative strategies. —
