Belgrade, Serbia – The court in Belgrade today delivered prison sentences to Vladimir and Miljana Kecmanovic, the parents of the individual responsible for a mass shooting at the “Vladislav Ribnikar” elementary school on May 3, 2023. Following a retrial, the pair were convicted and sentenced to a combined total of 17.5 years in prison. Vladimir Kecmanovic received a sentence of 14 years and six months, while Miljana Kecmanovic was sentenced to two years and 11 months.
The sentences reflect charges related to neglect and the overall circumstances surrounding the tragic event. During the retrial, the prosecution had initially sought a single prison sentence of 14 years and 11 months for Vladimir Kecmanovic and a three-year prison sentence for Miljana Kecmanovic. The charges primarily centered on Vladimir’s alleged criminal case against the state, alongside accusations of neglect concerning his young son.
Miljana Kecmanovic was solely charged with neglect. The court’s decision concludes the legal proceedings in the case. The parents are now serving their respective prison sentences.
