Iranian Football Federation Files Complaint with FIFA Over World Cup Restrictions

The Iranian Football Federation has formally lodged a complaint with FIFA regarding stringent regulations imposed on the national team’s participation in the World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The federation’s concerns center around travel restrictions that limit their preparation time. Specifically, regulations requiring the team to enter the country one day prior to matches and depart the day before have been cited as detrimental to team preparation.

The complaint alleges that prior agreements with American authorities indicated a willingness to negotiate these conditions beforehand. Following a 2-2 draw against New Zealand in Los Angeles, Iranian team captain Amir Ghalayeni described his squad as “the most dangerous” competing in the world cup. The Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI) subsequently stated that these measures “do not correspond to the principles of equal conditions for all teams and may have a negative impact.” The federation’s complaint highlights a key challenge for teams participating in the world cup, particularly regarding logistical arrangements and fair competition.

FIFA is currently reviewing the complaint as part of its ongoing oversight of the tournament.
