Freelance Employment Numbers Rise, Vardar Region Leads

Recent data released by the State Statistics Institute on June 2, 2026, at 9:10 a.m. reveals significant trends in freelance employment across North Macedonia. The statistics indicate the highest number of freelance jobs during the first three months of the year reached 2.07 percent.

Notably, the service workers and salespeople (fifth occupational group) accounted for 2,346 freelance positions. The Vardar Region demonstrated the highest concentration of freelance work, with a rate of 2.28 percent. Conversely, the catering sector exhibited the lowest proportion of freelance employment at 0.15 percent, despite having the highest number of jobs within that sector – 4.94 percent.

Analysis of the data shows a strong correlation with business entities employing between 10 and 49 individuals, which reported the highest number of freelance workers. This group represented 2.34 percent of all freelance positions. The release of this information was made available through multiple channels, including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Email, Print, and Viber.
