Bulgarian Foundation Announces Border Blockade in Response to Skopje Incident

The Bulgarian Foundation “Macedonia” has announced plans to stage a two-hour border blockade at three crossings between Bulgaria and North Macedonia. The planned action, set to occur at the Devebair, Delchev, and Novo Selo border crossings, follows a series of incidents involving demonstrations outside the Bulgarian embassy in Skopje. Organizers assert that the blockade is coordinated with the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs and that a joint permit has been secured.

The demonstration is a reaction to an incident where a Skopje resident set fire to two vehicles displaying diplomatic plates in front of the embassy. Local media reports indicate that the individual involved was immediately apprehended by Macedonian and Bulgarian authorities, and subsequent investigations were swiftly conducted to prevent further escalation. The Foundation clarified that the blockade is not intended for prolonged disruption of cross-border movement for citizens.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions between the two nations, particularly surrounding diplomatic activity and security concerns near the border. Authorities are monitoring the planned action closely.
