The EU system of back-up: the GRCHKITES of the border guards do not detect the biomarkers of the verification when there is a pre-emption

EEA System Implementation Paused Temporarily at Greek Border Crossings

The implementation of the European Economic Area (EEA) system at Greek border crossings is being temporarily suspended, according to responses from Deputy Minister for the Protection of Citizens, Ioannis Lambropoulos. This measure aims to facilitate the passage of goods and vehicles. The suspension is valid until July 8th, with a potential extension to September 6th, contingent on a complete understanding of the situation.

During this period, kilometer columns created at the separated border crossings, particularly at the “main gate for entry/exit,” will be established. Traditionally, the process involved the collection of fingerprints for registration. However, the temporary suspension allows for registration without this requirement.

Concerns raised by hotel owners in the northern region of Greece regarding the implementation of the system have been noted. The Deputy Minister’s responses indicate ongoing efforts to address these concerns and ensure the smooth operation of the border crossings. The extension of the suspension period will allow for continued assessment and potential adjustments to the system.

The EEA system remains operational, pending a full resolution.
