Fishing Season Restricted on North Macedonian Lakes Following Safety Concerns

Ohrid, Prespa, and Dojran Lakes will experience a limited fishing season during the summer months of 2026, according to a new decree issued by the Vlada. The measure aims to mitigate safety risks for boat captains and students participating in recreational fishing activities within the lakes. The primary fishing season will operate from July 1st to August 31st, with permitted hours between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

A separate, limited fishing period is also established for the Cham community. This includes nighttime hours from June 3rd to August 31st, operating between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and extending to September 1st to October 30th, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Finally, a further limited fishing period will be in place from November 1st to November 30th, operating between 6:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

The decree emphasizes prioritizing safety and minimizing potential collisions within the lakes. Further details regarding specific regulations and licensing requirements will be released by the relevant authorities. [Photo: MIA]
