Investigation Reveals Significant Irregularities at Public Health Institute
A recent Inspector’s report has highlighted substantial irregularities within the operations of the public health sector, leading to disruption and concerns. The investigation uncovered a series of questionable contracts and procurement practices within the Institute. Key findings include a substantial internet cable, measuring 15 kilometers and costing 15,000 euros, for which no installation or location has been identified.
Furthermore, the purchase of computers and laptops was significantly undervalued, with minimal returns. Financial contracts also drew scrutiny, notably a 1.6 million dinar agreement for mobile telecommunication services – twice the previously approved 800,000 dinar figure, and a 1.1 million dinar contract for fixed telephony, originally budgeted at 550,000 dinars. The report indicates a lack of oversight and review processes within the Institute.
Director Maria Andonovska stated during an interview with MIA that no formal review had been conducted since 2017. These discrepancies, totaling significant sums in dinars, represent a serious concern regarding financial management and procurement procedures within the Institute. Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the issues.
