Shiskorski: Ukraine cannot join the EU until it meets all the criteria

Shiskorski Emphasizes Ukraine’s Readiness for EU Membership

Brussels – Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Radoslav Shiskorski, addressed European Union diplomats ahead of a key meeting, stressing the conditions necessary for Ukraine’s eventual accession. Shiskorski underscored that Ukraine must meet established criteria to progress toward full membership within the European Union. Speaking on June 15, 2026, Shiskorski highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating that securing Ukraine’s place within the EU is not a matter of chance but a deliberate and necessary process.

He noted the decade-long technical negotiations surrounding Ukraine’s potential membership and emphasized the importance of ensuring preparedness for both parties. “Technical negotiations have lasted for a decade and we must be sure that Ukraine is prepared and that the opening will be a success for both sides,” Shiskorski stated. The Polish official’s comments come as the European Union continues to assess Ukraine’s progress in aligning with EU standards and regulations.

Shiskorski’s message is clear: Ukraine’s path to membership is contingent upon fulfilling the established criteria, and this remains a priority moving forward.
