The Social Democratic Party of Macedonia (SDSM) has announced that the Water and Employment Service has entered into a contract for the provision of drinking water valued at 100,000 euros, alleging the contract was signed without adequate public notice. The SDSM stated that the agreement, which was put forward by the opposition party, was executed in response to a clean drinking water crisis in the Goštajar area. Furthermore, the party noted that the contract was signed directly with “Kozuvanka,” a company owned by Mitko Jančev, the mayor of the Kavadardzi municipality.
The SDSM expressed concerns regarding the government’s adherence to principles of equal treatment and the provisions of the Skopje 2028 law. According to the party, this law allows for the provision of subsidies without the requirement of a formal tender process. The SDSM suggested that this mechanism could favor companies associated with the current administration.
The party’s statement highlighted the perceived operational difficulties within public services, observing that “citizens are working and going to hospitals, institutions are closing and reacting. Nothing functions except the businesses of the tender patriots.” The SDSM’s criticism centers on the manner in which the water service contract was signed, suggesting potential irregularities in the awarding of the 100,000 euro agreement.
