Rute says: Ukraine should not join NATO

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte indicated that Ukraine’s accession to the alliance is unlikely in the near future due to a lack of unanimous support among member nations. Rutte noted that achieving unanimity at present is difficult, and further stated that unanimity is not a prerequisite for full membership. According to reports from Sputnik, influential NATO members, including the United States and Germany, have expressed opposition to Ukraine joining the military bloc, suggesting that immediate integration chances are limited.

Previously, NATO’s chief of staff, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, had proposed a potential compromise model for Ukraine’s accession, drawing parallels to the integration of West Germany in 1955. However, these proposed plans have not progressed. The current diplomatic climate suggests significant hurdles for Ukraine’s aspirations to become a full member of NATO.

The requirement for consensus among all member states appears to be a major obstacle. While alternative pathways were once discussed, the present political landscape makes a straightforward accession challenging. Consequently, the immediate prospects for Ukraine’s full integration into the NATO structure remain uncertain.
