PREVENTION IN CASES – The father of Vanja will be judged again!

The Appeals Court in Skopje has annulled a previous amnesty verdict concerning the murder of Vanja Gjorgjievska, leading to the re-trial of the accused parties. The ruling addresses the robbery and subsequent murder of Vanja Gjorgjievska and Panče Žigoevski. The original judgment, which found four defendants—Ljubčo Palihac-Palo, Velibor Manev, Borre Videvski, and Vlatko Kesišev—guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment, was issued publicly on May 11th.

However, the subsequent proceedings before the court revealed grounds for reconsideration. In a statement posted on the court’s official portal, the court announced its decision to overturn the previous verdict. The court cited the weight of the evidence and the perceived incompleteness of the case as the basis for its decision.

Consequently, the court has ordered a full re-trial of the matter. Furthermore, the court also decided to actively postpone and remove certain non-mandatory legal actions that had been in place when the initial verdict was handed down. This procedural reversal indicates a significant review of the legal standing of the case.

The nullification of the amnesty verdict and the subsequent directive for a retrial underscore the court’s commitment to a thorough re-examination of the facts surrounding the tragic death of Vanja Gjorgjievska. The case is now subject to further review by the judicial body.
