During operations conducted in June and July, the police station for border control “Lake Ohrid” apprehended individuals engaged in illegal fishing activities within Lake Ohrid. The initiative aimed to combat illicit fishing practices and identify responsible parties. During these enforcement actions, the police successfully seized substantial equipment and a significant catch.
Authorities recovered 25 fishing nets, totaling a length of four kilometers and 900 meters, which were found to be strictly prohibited for use in the lake. Furthermore, the police seized 702 nets associated with Ohrid whitefish, along with a total weight of 97.1 kilograms of fish. The operation underscores the ongoing commitment of the police department to environmental protection.
The border control unit reported that these seizures resulted from targeted patrols designed to curb unsustainable fishing practices. In addition to addressing illegal gear, the police confirmed that they will continue their surveillance efforts in the coming period.
