Negotiations Between US and Iran Set to Begin in Switzerland
Geneva, Switzerland – Direct talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to commence in Switzerland, following a period of heightened tensions. The negotiations, aimed at addressing concerns regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, will involve a delegation from Iran led by Parliament President Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global trade, was announced by Iran earlier this week, citing the ongoing attacks attributed to Israel on southern Lebanon.
Iran has stated that the termination of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the primary justification for the action. United States President J.D. Venz arrived in Switzerland to initiate the talks.
He will be accompanied by Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, with Pakistan continuing its role as a mediating party. The discussions are expected to focus on de-escalating regional tensions and addressing Iran’s security concerns. Representatives from both nations will work to establish a framework for dialogue and explore potential pathways forward.
The commencement of these talks in Switzerland marks a significant step in efforts to resolve the current impasse.
