Macedonia Set to Develop Region’s Top Road Network
Skopje – Macedonia is poised to establish the most advanced road network within the region, according to Vice Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikolovski. Speaking on June 1, 2026, Nikolovski highlighted forthcoming infrastructure projects as key to achieving this goal. The announcement follows a period of significant investment focused on upgrading the country’s roadways.
Nikolovski acknowledged a substantial deficit in public infrastructure investment over the past three decades, primarily spanning the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. This lack of investment has contributed to current challenges within the transportation sector. “We are now undertaking a multi-faceted approach to address this historical gap,” stated Nikolovski.
“Completion of ongoing projects will result in Macedonia having the best auto paths in the region.”
The government’s strategy involves concentrated efforts across several key areas to modernize and expand the nation’s road infrastructure. The focus remains on delivering a superior road network for the benefit of Macedonia and its connectivity within the wider region.
