NIKOJ HAVE THE RIGHT TO REVIEW OUR HISTORY, when the President Davkova

During her inauguration ceremony on August 2nd in Skopje, coinciding with Ilinden and in memory of Metodije Andonov Čento, the former President, Gordana Silišanovska Dačković, addressed the significance of Macedonia’s national history. Speaking at the event, the President emphasized a commitment to historical truth and to the generations who achieved the Macedonian Republic through struggle. A central theme of her remarks was the assertion that certain narratives regarding the nation’s foundation are beyond debate.

She stated that no individual possesses the right to dictate the national narrative or to unilaterally review the established historical record. Instead, she highlighted the collective duty to honor the sacrifices made by previous generations to secure the independent Macedonian state. The former President formally designated Ilinden as a day of commemoration, intended to spotlight the continuous struggle for an autonomous Macedonian state.

Furthermore, she characterized the events of the ASSN, arguing that it was not an arbitrary occurrence. According to her statement, the movement was a democratically inspired act, drawing historical parallels with both the traditions of the French Revolution and the seminal Ilinden uprising. The address positioned the commemoration as a recognition of the enduring spirit of Macedonian self-determination.
