According to a press release issued to the AFP, Zuckerberg finalized the acquisition, though the specific details of the transaction were not disclosed. The American billionaire acquired the property from Strancal, a settlement located in the Waterford (south) county.
The sellers were identified as British businessman Michael Allen-Bakley and his wife, Jankarla, who is connected to the Fort family, known for its involvement in British luxury hospitality. The castle itself has a history dating back to 1827, when it was originally constructed for an English politician. Over time, it served as a meeting point for a three-room delkan stone situated approximately 150 kilometers southwest of Dublin.
In the past two decades, the structure has undergone significant reconstruction efforts. The press release stated that “Mark and his family are motivated by the desire to continue to take care of the reputation of the castle.” This acquisition marks a notable purchase by Zuckerberg, who is a key member of Meta, to take ownership of the site.
