Funding Secured for Expanded Local Waste Management Project
The local waste management project, currently in its second year of operation, will receive continued funding from June 2024 through June 2026. Contracts totaling 25.3 million euros will be finalized for the reconstruction of local waste management projects across 72 municipalities. This initiative aims to significantly improve waste management services throughout the region.
Approximately 96 streets have already been rehabilitated as part of this project. Further reconstruction efforts will focus on rehabilitating 31 kilometers of waste management infrastructure, expanding the total network to approximately 103 kilometers. The project incorporates both new developments and initiatives supported by the ZELS and World Bank.
Aleksandar Nikolovski, the municipality’s transport official, highlighted the substantial support being garnered for the project’s realization and the positive impact on municipal health. As part of the project, 49 vehicles of various types will be purchased to bolster the cities of Skopje’s waste management capabilities. The funding will be administered to Nikolovski’s office.
The overall goal is to enhance local waste management services and improve public health outcomes.
