Mucunski: The process of our European integration should be credible and based on European values

During a recent appearance on the 5th Channel’s “Only Intervju” program, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Tihomir Mucunski addressed the necessity for a structured and credible approach to European integration. Mucunski emphasized that the government’s strategy must be proactive and grounded in objective criteria, rather than being solely dependent on a series of bilateral agreements. The Minister stressed that the entire accession process to the European Union must be evaluated against objective realities.

According to Mucunski, the timeline for the state’s readiness to commence negotiations is not within the next four or five years. He further noted that the current situation reflects a prolonged period of deliberation at the institutional level, pointing out that the European Commission has reportedly been awaiting a decision on the EU’s status as a single entity for approximately 25 years. For Mucunski, the path forward requires alignment with broader European interests to ensure that any integration effort is robust and sustainable.

He suggested that the commitment to deeper European cooperation must transcend mere political agreements. The Minister’s remarks underscore a measured view of the necessary reforms, advocating for a systematic progression that meets established international benchmarks rather than relying on immediate political gestures.
