Emmanuel Macron stated today that despite ongoing disagreements, he maintains a consistent dialogue with U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking after Trump issued a surprise press release regarding Ukraine during the G7 summit in Evian, Macron emphasized the continued communication between the two leaders.
“We always had dialogue,” Macron said at a press conference. “When we didn’t agree, we recognized it, but when he won’t agree, he will say ‘I always had faith.’”
The French president also referenced Trump’s previous actions, noting the president’s expedited invitation to the G7 summit in Canada the year prior. Macron indicated that Trump, who has expressed reservations about large international gatherings, continues to hold a distinct perspective.
