Christian Mitzkoski stated an intention to maintain the policy of subsidizing and launching new airlines. He noted that infrastructure expansion has been a key focus, pointing out that dozens of new airports have been established over the past two years. According to Mitzkoski, these investments contributed to the transportation of 3.5 million passengers this year.
He reported that the operational performance of these airports has demonstrated consistent growth, achieving double-digit percentage increases. However, he also highlighted specific operational challenges, mentioning that the Skopje airport recorded a 30 percent rate of cancellations since the beginning of the current year. Regarding future connectivity, Mitzkoski indicated that discussions would take place with the “Vizier” concerning the continuation of seasonal flights to destinations such as Sardinia and Sicily, expressing confidence that continued subsidies for these routes would be beneficial.
From a national strategy perspective, Mitzkoski emphasized the importance of these connections, stating that the overarching goal is for the country to solidify its position as a vital regional hub. This status, he explained, would facilitate the return flow of people from various surrounding regions, solidifying the role of the expanded airport network within the broader regional economy.
