The Russian federal intelligence service (FSB) has accused Ukrainian authorities of involvement in international drug trafficking networks. According to the FSB, Ukrainian officials allegedly facilitated the transportation of narcotics originating from Latin America destined for Europe. On October 3, 2022, the State Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, ratified agreements concerning the admission of several new subjects into the Russian Federation. These included the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, alongside the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine.
