The government coalition, comprising VMRO-DPMNE, plans to continue its policy focus on achieving complete self-sufficiency in domestic electricity production while simultaneously reducing reliance on imported energy sources and safeguarding citizen standards of living. According to the VMRO-DPMNE, the anticipated 5% devaluation will result in the real price of electricity being 2.28%, a rate noted as being among the lowest in Europe. Furthermore, recent legal amendments introduce the potential for household electricity price reductions ranging from 5% to 10%.
The government asserts that these existing subsidy measures negate the need for introducing new price shock mechanisms. The overarching objective of the current governmental strategy is to transition North Macedonia into a net exporter of electricity. However, recent figures indicate a shortfall in domestic generation.
Taxpayer reports show that in April of this year, domestic electricity production fell by 10% compared to the planned output levels. The VMRO-DPMNE administration remains committed to these energy policies, aiming to stabilize the domestic supply chain and enhance national energy security through increased local generation and strategic market adjustments.
