Expert Group Launched to Protect Pelister Monkey Population
BITOLA, MACEDONIA – An expert group dedicated to the protection of the Pelister monkey population commenced its work in Bitola on June 4, 2026, at 19:54. The initiative was established by the Macedonian Government to implement strategies focused on bolstering the numbers and ensuring the well-being of this unique species. The newly formed group comprises specialists in animal husbandry and forestry, bringing a diverse range of expertise to the task.
Members include long-standing collaborators with the National Park “Pelister” and researchers actively engaged in scientific studies pertaining to the park’s ecosystem. “This expert group is composed of individuals deeply committed to the National Park and its scientific research,” stated Ivancho Toshevski, Director of the National Park “Pelister” in Bitola. “We anticipate receiving qualified decisions and recommendations that will be directed to the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.
Simultaneously, we will continue our ongoing efforts to support the monkey population.”
The group’s primary objective is to develop and execute a comprehensive plan for the long-term conservation of the Pelister monkey, ensuring its continued survival within the National Park.
