Industrial Accidents Rise: Significant Damage Reported Across North Macedonia
A workplace accident occurred in Kiselava voda, resulting in one worker fatality and four injuries. The incident, pictured by Met.mk, is part of a concerning trend highlighted by the Institute for Public Health (IPH). By the end of 2025, the IPH projects a total of 697 reported damage to work, representing a substantial increase from the 21 recorded in the previous year.
This indicates a nearly one-third reduction in the number of reported incidents. Analysis of the damage reveals a significant concentration within the industry and mining sectors. A total of 255 damage reports were logged, accounting for 37% of the overall state-wide total.
This highlights the industry’s contribution to the number of reported incidents. Within the broader damage to work category, health and social protection sectors account for 13% of the reported cases. Over half – 50.1% – of all damage to work incidents are attributed to the industry and mining sectors.
The IPH’s data underscores the need for continued vigilance and preventative measures within these key industries, particularly concerning the number of accidents involving workers in mining operations.
