He stopped shooting – he died after three days. Doctors say that he had clubbing in the heart.

A forensic investigation into the death of Jake Barton, a 29-year-old man from Worcester, has revealed that he died from clozapine poisoning. Barton, who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and was a long-term smoker, was receiving the antipsychotic medication under the supervision of his psychiatrist. According to reports, the poisoning occurred after Barton made the decision to stopped smoking.

The investigation indicated that the dosage of clozapine prescribed for him became dangerously high once he quit smoking. Medical experts noted that cigarette consumption can significantly affect the body’s metabolism of clozapine, potentially reducing the drug’s concentration in the bloodstream. Barton reportedly quit smoking during a local ban in North Yorkshire and passed away approximately three days after his last cigarette.

The medical team determined that the fluctuation in drug levels was the primary cause of death. While the circumstances surrounding his final days were investigated
